Week 12 - Review of semester

I wanted to give my opinion on my experience of the Social Computing and Media module overall. I have found the information I've learnt in this module to be indispensable in moving forward with college life. I am now the Audtior/Station Manager of Belfield FM, UCD's student radio station. One of the main goals I wanted to achieve in the forthcoming academic year was to create a 'Belfield FM' app. After experiencing how to use MIT App Inventor 2 software and the different tools of the trade through eLabs, I feel this is something I can achieve without much complication! Another aspect of the module I enjoyed was the introduction to other forms of digital media such as a screencast and prezi. These are forms of media I was aware of but not entirely sure how to put together. Now, I am extremely confident in carrying out a screencast using the screen-o-matic software and compiling a Prezi presentation too. We were introduced to lot of forms of social media, which is important for me as auditor of a society who wishes to expand the society as much as we can through the internet and casual internet users. I was first introduced to websites such as Flickr and Pinterest in particular which I will aim to use more frequently in the future. Also, the idea of search engine optimization was something I found particularly interesting and I will be sure to look in to that further. I have enjoyed working as a group, having not had much group work experience due to my studies lying outside of the SILS bracket. This was a new challenge for me but I have learnt a lot from working with other members with different personalities and strengths. I will find this extremely useful when working with my co-Belfield FM committee members next year, in terms of delegation of duties, communicating as a group and working to our full extent as a team.
