Week 4 - Increasing effectiveness of Social Bookmarking
In our readings for this week's lecture, I watched a video on youtube on some facts regarding social bookmarking. Social bookmarking is a method for for Internet users to store, organize, search and manage bookmarks of web pages on the Internet. To put it in to simpler terms, it is finding something on the internet that may be of interest to others you know or useful to you. Delicious is an example of a social bookmarking website. The concept of SERP (Search Engine Page Ranking) was discussed, comparable to SEO (Search Engine Optimization) Shane discussed in lectures. The more 'backlinks' created on your webpage the higher up your SERP will be, as Google see's your webpage as more important. The use of a search engine spider or other illegal programs will harm your SERP. Some tips to increase SERP include adding new content regularly, linking roughly 5-10 sites on your webpage. The video also recommended optimizing blog posts to increase SERP by including the keyword several times in your body, using bold and italic features and links involving the top social media logos.
